Unity (Christian)
Christian unity is the oneness of the Church in faith, sacraments, and governance, willed by Christ and sought through the ecumenical movement.
Christian unity is the oneness of the Church for which Christ prayed at the Last Supper: "That they may all be one... so that the world may believe" (John 17:21). The Church is one because of her source (the Trinity), her founder (Jesus Christ), and her soul (the Holy Spirit) (CCC 813).
Wounds to Unity
Tragically, human sin has wounded the visible unity of Christians through schisms and heresies. The Catholic Church is committed to ecumenism—the effort to restore visible unity among all Christians through prayer, dialogue, and conversion of heart, without compromising the fullness of truth (CCC 817–822).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
