Acolyte
An acolyte is a ministry in the Church, either instituted or extraordinary, tasked with assisting at the altar.
The acolyte is instituted to service at the altar and to assist the priest and deacon. Primarily, his duty is to prepare the altar and the sacred vessels and, if necessary, as an extraordinary minister, to distribute the Eucharist to the faithful (CCC 903, 1672).
Service in the Liturgy
In the assembly of the faithful, the acolyte represents the service of the whole people to the Lord at His holy table.
