The Cenacle
The Upper Room in Jerusalem where the Last Supper was celebrated and where the Holy Spirit descended at Pentecost.
The Cenacle is the sacred space where Jesus instituted the Eucharist and the Priesthood and where He appeared to the Apostles after His Resurrection (CCC 610, 1339). It is also the site of the first Pentecost (CCC 731).
The Birthplace of the Church
In the Cenacle, the Church was born as a community gathered in prayer with Mary, receiving the power of the Holy Spirit to go out and preach to all nations (CCC 731, 2623).
