Holy Water

Holy water is water that has been blessed by a priest to serve as a sacramental of protection and purification.

Holy water is a sacramental, a sacred sign instituted by the Church to prepare us to receive the fruit of the sacraments and to sanctify different circumstances of life (CCC 1667-1668). It is used in blessings and as a reminder of Baptism (CCC 1668).

Sign of Baptism

When the faithful use holy water, especially upon entering a church, it is an act of faith that recalls their initiation into Christ and their desire for purification (CCC 1668).

Frequently Asked Questions

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
