The Sea of Galilee
The freshwater lake in northern Israel where much of Jesus' public ministry took place.
The Sea of Galilee (also known as Lake Gennesaret or the Sea of Tiberias) was the center of Jesus' Galilean ministry, where He called His first disciples and performed many miracles (CCC 541). It was here that He walked on water, calmed the storm, and multiplied the loaves and fishes.
The Call to Fishers of Men
Jesus chose fishermen from the shores of Galilee to be His Apostles, transforming their worldly trade into the spiritual mission of 'fishing for men' (CCC 765, 849).
