The Passover

The Passover is the Jewish feast commemorating God's deliverance of Israel from Egypt, the type of Christ's Paschal Mystery.

The Passover (Pesach) commemorates the liberation of Israel from slavery in Egypt (CCC 1096, 1363). It is a type of the true Passover of Jesus Christ (CCC 608, 1094).

Fulfillment in Christ

Jesus is the true Lamb of God whose blood is shed for our salvation (CCC 608). The Eucharist is the new Passover (CCC 1339).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Jesus the Paschal Lamb? Because His sacrifice saves us from the spiritual death of sin, just as the lamb's blood saved Israel (CCC 608, 1363).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
