The State of Grace
The state of grace is the condition of being free from mortal sin and possessing the indwelling of the Holy Spirit through sanctifying grace.
The state of grace is the supernatural condition of a soul that is in friendship with God, possessing the gift of sanctifying grace received at Baptism (CCC 1266, 1997). This grace is an abiding disposition that perfects the soul to enable it to live with God (CCC 2000).
Losing and Restoring Grace
The state of grace is lost by the commission of a mortal sin, which destroys charity in the heart (CCC 1855). It can be restored through the Sacrament of Penance (CCC 1446).
