An Act of Devotion
A vow is an act of devotion in which the Christian dedicates himself to God or promises God some good work. By fulfilling vows, the person renders to God what has been promised. The most common public vows in the Church are those of poverty, chastity, and obedience made in religious life, and the vows of marriage (CCC 2102–2103).
