Anamnesis
The liturgical 'memorial' in the Mass that makes present the Paschal Mystery of Christ.
Anamnesis (memorial) is the part of the Eucharistic Prayer where the Church calls to mind the Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus (CCC 1103, 1354). In the biblical sense, a memorial does not just recall the past but makes it present in power (CCC 1362-1364).
Memorial of the Lord
When the Church celebrates the Eucharist, she fulfills Christ's command: 'Do this in memory of me.' This anamnesis is a living memorial that applies the fruits of the one sacrifice of the Cross to the present day (CCC 1362-1366).
Frequently Asked Questions
Does anamnesis mean 'recalling'? It is more than mental recall; it is the sacramental 'making present' (re-presentation) of the mystery (CCC 1363).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
