Antichrist
The Antichrist is a deceptive figure or movement that will appear before the Second Coming to lead people away from the truth.
The Antichrist is the 'ultimate anti-messianism' or a 'pseudo-messianism' by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of His Messiah come in the flesh (CCC 675). This deception will occur during the Church's ultimate trial before Christ's return (CCC 675-676).
The Deception of Evil
The Antichrist's deception is the offer of an apparent solution to humanity's problems at the price of apostasy from the truth (CCC 675).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Antichrist a person? While tradition often identifies him as an individual, the Catechism also speaks of it as a recurrent historical deception where political or social movements claim to bring about the kingdom on earth (CCC 676).
