Ascesis
Ascesis is the practice of spiritual discipline and self-denial to grow in holiness and master one's passions.
Ascesis (or asceticism) refers to the spiritual 'exercises' or efforts made to progress in the life of the Spirit (CCC 2013). It involves the struggle against disordered desires and the training of the will for the love of God (CCC 2015, 2733).
Path to Perfection
There is no holiness without renunciation and spiritual battle. Spiritual progress entails the ascesis and mortification that gradually lead to living in the peace and joy of the Beatitudes (CCC 2015).
