Biblical Inspiration
Biblical inspiration is the action of the Holy Spirit upon the human authors of the Bible, ensuring they wrote all and only what God willed.
Biblical inspiration means that God is the primary author of Sacred Scripture (CCC 105). He inspired the human authors to use their own faculties and powers so that, with Him acting in them and through them, they wrote as true authors everything and only those things which He wanted (CCC 106).
Inner Truth
Because the Bible is inspired, the Church teaches that the books of Scripture firmly, faithfully, and without error teach that truth which God willed to see confided to Sacred Scripture for the sake of our salvation (CCC 107).
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this mean God 'dictated' the words? No. The human authors were not passive instruments; they used their own language, style, and culture, while remaining under the guidance of the Holy Spirit (CCC 106).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
