Calumny
Calumny is the sin of harming the reputation of another by making false statements about them.
Calumny, also known as slander, is a sin against the Eighth Commandment consisting of remarks contrary to the truth that harm the reputation of others (CCC 2477, 2479). It gives occasion for false judgments concerning them (CCC 2477).
Moral Gravity
By making false accusations, the calumniator commits a grave injustice. Reparation for the offense is a moral obligation to restore the reputation that was unjustly damaged (CCC 2487).
