Fear of the Lord (Gift)
Fear of the Lord is a gift of the Holy Spirit that inspires a profound reverence for God and a desire not to offend Him, acting as the beginning of wisdom.
Fear of the Lord is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is not a servile terror of punishment, but a profound, filial reverence and awe before the majesty and holiness of God. It inspires in the soul a deep sorrow for sin and a sincere desire not to offend God (CCC 1831).
The Beginning of Wisdom
Scripture calls the fear of the Lord "the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10). By instilling a proper sense of creaturely humility, this gift perfectly orders our relationship with God, enabling us to avoid presumption and to depend entirely on His grace (CCC 1831).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
