Infant Baptism
Infant Baptism is the practice of baptizing children shortly after birth to cleanse them from original sin and incorporate them into the family of God.
Infant Baptism is the practice, attested since the earliest days of the Church, of administering the sacrament to children who have not yet reached the age of reason (CCC 1250, 1252). Children need the new birth in Baptism to be freed from the power of darkness (CCC 1250).
The Role of Faith
The Church baptizes infants in the faith of the Church, expressed by the parents and godparents (CCC 1253). The grace of the sacrament is a free gift of God (CCC 1250).
