Rites

Rites are the diverse liturgical, theological, and canonical traditions within the one Catholic Church.

The term 'rites' refers to the different ways in which the one faith of Christ is expressed and celebrated in various parts of the world (CCC 1200-1203). All authorized rites are equal in dignity and right (CCC 1203).

Unity and Rites

The diversity of rites, such as the Roman, Byzantine, Coptic, and others, demonstrates that the Church is 'catholic' or universal, capable of embracing all cultures (CCC 1201-1206).

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Eastern Rites Catholic? Yes. There are many Eastern Catholic Churches that are in full communion with the Pope but follow their own ancient liturgical and canonical traditions (CCC 1203).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
