Blessing

A blessing is a prayer invoking God's favor and protection upon a person, place, or thing.

A blessing is a ritual action by which the Church asks for God's grace and expresses praise for His goodness (CCC 1078, 1669-1671). Every blessing is an encounter between God and man (CCC 1078).

Source of All Blessing

God is the source of every blessing. In the liturgy, the Church responds to God's gifts by blessing Him in return and by asking Him to sanctify His creatures (CCC 1078-1083).

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can give a blessing? While certain blessings are reserved to the clergy, every baptized person is called to be a 'blessing' and to bless others (CCC 1669).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
