Consecrated Life
Consecrated life is a permanent state of life recognized by the Church, in which the faithful follow Christ more closely through the evangelical counsels.
The consecrated life is characterized by the public profession of the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience (CCC 914-916, 944). It is a way of experiencing a more 'intimate' consecration, rooted in Baptism and dedicated totally to God (CCC 916).
Diverse Forms
It includes religious life, eremitic life, consecrated virginity, and secular institutes (CCC 917-930).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is consecrated life the same as being a priest? Not necessarily. Many men and women in the consecrated life are not ordained, while most priests are not part of a religious order (though they are still consecrated to God through their ordination).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
