Despair

Despair is the sin of ceasing to hope for personal salvation from God or for the forgiveness of sins.

Despair is a sin against the First Commandment and the virtue of hope. It consists in a person ceasing to hope for his personal salvation from God or for the forgiveness of his sins (CCC 2091).

Contrary to God's Goodness

Despair is contrary to God's goodness, to His justice, and to His mercy (CCC 2091). It is a refusal to trust in the power of God to save and forgive (CCC 2091).
