Diocese
A diocese is a portion of the People of God entrusted to the pastoral care of a bishop.
A diocese (or particular Church) is a community of the faithful in communion in faith and sacraments with their bishop ordained in apostolic succession (CCC 833). The universal Church exists in and through these particular Churches (CCC 833).
Local Church
The diocese is the primary unit of the Church's structure, where the Gospel is preached and the sacraments are celebrated under the authority of the bishop (CCC 886).
