Economy / Oikonomia
The 'Economy' or 'Oikonomia' refers to God's plan and management of the world for the salvation of humanity, particularly through the missions of the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The 'Economy of Salvation' (oikonomia) refers to the works by which God reveals Himself and communicates His life to humanity (CCC 236). It is distinguished from 'Theology' (theologia), which refers to the mystery of the internal life of the Trinity (CCC 236).
The Sacramental Economy
The Church speaks of the 'Sacramental Economy,' which is the communication of the fruits of Christ's Paschal mystery through the liturgy (CCC 1076). Through this economy, Christ remains active in His Church (CCC 1076, 1091).
