Eparchy

An eparchy is the Eastern Catholic equivalent of a diocese—a portion of the People of God entrusted to a bishop.

In the Eastern Catholic Churches, an eparchy is the equivalent of what the Latin Church calls a diocese. It is a portion of the People of God entrusted to the pastoral care of a bishop (called an eparch), assisted by his presbyterate (CCC 833).

The Local Church

An eparchy constitutes a particular Church in which the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church of Christ is truly present and operative. It preserves the unique liturgical, theological, and canonical heritage of its specific Eastern tradition while remaining in full communion with the Pope (CCC 833, 838).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
