Fortitude (Gift)

Fortitude is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. While the cardinal virtue of fortitude is developed through human effort and grace, the gift of fortitude is an infusion of divine strength that enables a person to endure great difficulties, overcome fears, and remain steadfast in faith (CCC 1831).

Courage for Witness

The gift of fortitude empowers Christians to bear heroic witness to Christ, even to the point of martyrdom. It provides a supernatural resilience that sustains the soul in times of trial, persecution, and spiritual combat (CCC 1831).
