Heresy
Heresy is the obstinate post-baptismal denial of some truth which must be believed with divine and catholic faith.
Heresy is the post-baptismal denial or obstinate doubt of a dogma of the Catholic faith (CCC 2089). It is distinguished from apostasy (total rejection of the faith) and schism (refusal of submission to the Pope) (CCC 2089).
Moral Gravity
Heresy is a grave sin against the virtue of faith because it breaks the unity of the Body of Christ and obscures the truth of the Gospel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can someone be a heretic by accident? No. For a belief to be 'obstinate' heresy, the person must be aware of the Church's teaching and willfully choose to reject it.
