Homily
A homily is a liturgical sermon that explains the Word of God and helps the faithful apply it to their lives.
The homily is an integral part of the liturgy; it is necessary for the nurturing of the Christian life. It should be an exposition of some aspect of the readings from Sacred Scripture or of another text from the Ordinary or the Proper of the Mass (CCC 1100, 1349).
Proclaiming the Word
The purpose of the homily is to help the people understand the mystery of Christ and to lead them to a more active participation in the Eucharist (CCC 1349).
