Ministry

Ministry is the service rendered to the Church and the world by the faithful, participating in the mission of Christ. It includes both the ordained ministry and lay ministries.

Ministry refers to the service performed by the faithful for the building up of the Church and the fulfillment of her mission. The term encompasses both the ordained, sacramental ministry (bishops, priests, deacons) and the varied ministries exercised by lay people (CCC 873-874, 903).

Ordained and Lay Ministry

The ordained ministry is conferred by the Sacrament of Holy Orders and carries a unique authority to act in the person of Christ the Head. Lay ministries, rooted in the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation, involve various forms of service in the liturgy, catechesis, and pastoral care, contributing essentially to the Church's life and outreach (CCC 876, 903).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
