Monastic Life

Monastic life is a form of consecrated life dedicated to prayer, silence, and work, usually lived within a monastery.

Monastic life is an ancient form of consecrated life characterized by separation from the world, communal living, liturgical prayer (the Divine Office), manual labor, and spiritual reading. Monks and nuns take vows such as stability, conversion of life, and obedience (CCC 920).

Seeking God Alone

The primary aim of monastic life is the search for God (quaerere Deum). Though they are separated from the world, monastics intercede continuously for the world. Their hidden life of prayer is a vital spiritual powerhouse for the entire Church's mission (CCC 920–921).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
