Sensus Fidei
The sensus fidei is the supernatural appreciation of the faith on the part of the whole people, manifesting a universal consent in matters of faith and morals.
The sensus fidei ('sense of the faith') is a supernatural instinct of the faithful that allows them to recognize and adhere to the Word of God (CCC 92-93). By this appreciation, the People of God unfailingly adheres to the faith delivered to the saints (CCC 92).
An Instinct for Truth
This gift of the Holy Spirit enables the faithful to penetrate deeper into the faith and apply it more fully in daily life (CCC 93-94). It is shared discernment within the communion of the Church.

Is the sensus fidei independent of the Magisterium? No. It is exercised under the guidance of the sacred teaching office (CCC 92).
