Suicide
Suicide is the deliberate taking of one's own life—a grave offense against God's sovereignty over life, though psychological factors can diminish culpability.
Suicide is the intentional taking of one's own life. The Church teaches that it is gravely contrary to the just love of self, to charity toward neighbor, and to the absolute sovereignty of God, who alone is the master of life (CCC 2280–2281).
Diminished Culpability and Hope
While the act of suicide is objectively a grave evil, the Church clearly teaches that severe psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear can significantly diminish the person's subjective responsibility. The Church does not despair of the eternal salvation of those who have taken their own lives, and she prays for them, trusting in God's unfathomable mercy (CCC 2282–2283).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
