Logos

Logos is the Greek word meaning 'Word' or 'Reason,' used in the Gospel of John to identify Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God.

The term Logos is used in the prologue of John's Gospel to describe the second Person of the Holy Trinity: 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God' (John 1:1; CCC 241, 456-460). Jesus is the incarnate Logos.

The Eternal Word

As the Logos, Jesus is the Wisdom and Reason of God through whom all things were created (CCC 291). He is the definitive Word that God has spoken to humanity, and in Him, God has said everything (CCC 65).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Jesus called the 'Word'? Because just as a word reveals the thought of the speaker, Jesus perfectly reveals the heart and the mind of the Father to us (CCC 458, 473).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
