Mary Magdalene

Mary Magdalene was a devoted disciple of Jesus and the first witness of His Resurrection.

Mary Magdalene was one of the holy women who followed Jesus and ministered to Him from their own resources (Luke 8:1-3). She stood by the cross during the Passion and was the first to encounter the Risen Lord on Easter morning (CCC 641).

Apostle to the Apostles

Because she was sent by Jesus to announce the Resurrection to the Twelve, she is often called the 'Apostle to the Apostles' (CCC 641).

Frequently Asked Questions

Was Mary Magdalene a sinner? While the Bible says seven demons were cast out of her, the tradition identifying her as the 'sinful woman' who anointed Jesus' feet is not explicitly stated in the biblical text, though it has been a common theme in Western art and devotion.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
