Obedience

Obedience is the moral virtue and evangelical counsel that submits the will to legitimate authority, supremely modeled by Christ's obedience to the Father.

Obedience is the moral virtue that inclines the will to comply with the commands of lawful authority. In the Christian life, it is primarily the submission of faith to God's revelation and will. It is also one of the three evangelical counsels professed in consecrated life (CCC 144, 915).

The Obedience of Christ

Christian obedience is modeled on Jesus Christ, who "became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross" (Philippians 2:8). By His obedience, Christ undos the disobedience of Adam. True obedience is an act of freedom and love, trusting that God's authority is ordered toward our ultimate good (CCC 615).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
