Orders (Religious)
Religious orders are communities of consecrated life with distinct charisms, traditions, and rules, such as the Franciscans, Dominicans, or Jesuits.
Religious orders are distinct families within the consecrated life, each founded with a specific charism (spiritual gift and mission) given by God to their founder. Examples include the Benedictines, Franciscans, Dominicans, Carmelites, and Jesuits (CCC 917).
Diversity of Charisms
The Church recognizes and protects the unique character of each religious order. Some are purely contemplative (focused entirely on prayer within a cloister), while others are active or apostolic (engaged in teaching, healthcare, or missionary work). Together, they enrich the Church like a "tree with many branches" (CCC 917).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
