St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi was a 13th-century saint who founded the Franciscan order and is known for his poverty, love for nature, and devotion to the Passion of Christ.

St. Francis of Assisi lived a life of radical poverty and imitation of Christ, seeking to rebuild the Church through simplicity and the Gospel (CCC 2045). He received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ's passion, on his own body.

Love for Creation

His love for all creatures as brothers and sisters under God is celebrated in his 'Canticle of the Sun,' and he is the patron saint of ecology and animals (CCC 2416).
