St. Joseph
St. Joseph was the husband of the Virgin Mary and the foster-father of Jesus, the patron of the universal Church.
St. Joseph is the 'just man' who was chosen by God to be the spouse of Mary and the legal father of the Son of God (CCC 437, 497). He provided for and protected the Holy Family during Jesus' hidden years (CCC 532).
Patron and Model
The Church honors Joseph as the patron of the universal Church, of workers, and of a happy death. He is a model of humble obedience and silent service to the will of God (CCC 533, 2427).
