Wisdom (Gift)

Wisdom is the first and highest of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is a supernatural grace that perfects the intellect, not merely to know facts about God, but to perceive, judge, and value all things from God's own perspective, guided by divine love (CCC 1831).

A Taste for the Divine

The word wisdom (Latin sapientia) shares a root with the word for "taste" (sapere). The gift of wisdom gives the soul a "taste" or relish for divine things. It enables the believer to evaluate the things of this world correctly, keeping their heart fixed on eternal realities and experiencing a deep, joyful peace in God's presence (CCC 1831).
