World

In Catholic theology, the 'world' refers both to God's good creation and to the realm of human society organized in rebellion against God.

In Catholic theology and Scripture, the term "world" has a dual meaning. First, it refers to the entirety of creation, which God made and declared "very good," and which he so loved that he sent his only Son to save it (John 3:16; CCC 299).

The Realm of Sin

Second, especially in the Johannine writings, the "world" refers to the sphere of reality that is alienated from God, dominated by sin, and under the influence of the Evil One. Christians are called to love the world as God's creation, but to reject the "spirit of the world" that rebels against the Gospel (CCC 272, 2853).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
