The highest form of prayer, by which man acknowledges God as God — Creator and Savior, Lord and Master of all that exists. Worship (adoration) is the first act of the virtue of religion and is owed to God alone (CCC 2096–2097). In the liturgy, especially in the Eucharist, the Church offers worship to the Father through the Son in the Holy Spirit (CCC 1083). The first commandment requires that we worship and serve God alone (cf. Mt 4:10).
