Gabriel

Gabriel is the Archangel who served as the messenger of God, most notably at the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary.

St. Gabriel is one of the three archangels named in Scripture (CCC 332). He was sent by God to announce the birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah and the birth of Jesus to Mary (Luke 1; CCC 332, 484).

The Messenger of the Incarnation

Gabriel's greeting to Mary—'Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you'—reveals the unique identity of the Mother of God and the beginning of the New Covenant (CCC 491, 2676).
