Gethsemane
The garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives where Jesus suffered His Agony.
Gethsemane is the place where Jesus entered into His final struggle against temptation and accepted the Father's will for our salvation (CCC 612, 2733). It is the site of His deepest prayer: 'Not my will, but yours, be done' (CCC 2605, 2733).
The Agony in the Garden
In Gethsemane, Jesus took upon Himself the weight of the world's sins, experiencing sorrow and anguish, yet remaining perfectly obedient to the Father (CCC 612, 2605).
