Paraclete
The title of the Holy Spirit, meaning 'Advocate,' 'Counselor,' or 'Comforter.'
Paraclete is the name Jesus gives to the Holy Spirit, whom He promised to send to His disciples after His Ascension (CCC 692, 1848). The term literally means 'the one called to one's side' to assist and defend (CCC 692).
The Spirit of Truth
As our Paraclete, the Holy Spirit guides the Church into all truth, intercedes for us in prayer, and gives us the strength to witness to Christ in the world (CCC 692, 729, 2630).
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the Holy Spirit called our Advocate? Because He stands by us in our spiritual battles and 'speaks for us' to the Father when we do not know how to pray as we ought (CCC 2630).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
