Paradise refers to the state of eternal life and the Beatific Vision where the saints see God 'face to face' and share in His divine life (CCC 1023-1026). It is the 'kingdom of light and peace' where all desire is fulfilled (CCC 1024, 1027).

The Promise to the Good Thief

Jesus promised the penitent thief, 'Today you will be with me in Paradise,' signifying the immediate entry into God's presence for those who die in His grace and friendship (CCC 1021).
