Gentiles
Gentiles are the people of all nations other than the Jewish people, whom God has called to share in the salvation of Christ.
In the Bible, 'Gentiles' refers to the non-Jewish nations who were originally outside the Covenant of Israel (CCC 528, 674). With the coming of Christ, the barrier between Jews and Gentiles was broken down, and salvation was offered to all (CCC 674, 762, 849).
The Call of the Nations
The Epiphany, when the Magi (Gentiles) came to worship the infant Jesus, is the sign that the Messiah came for the salvation of all peoples (CCC 528).
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Christians Gentiles? Most Christians are from Gentile backgrounds, but through Baptism, they are 'grafted' into the spiritual family of Abraham and become the new People of God (CCC 762, 839).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
