Patmos

The Greek island where St. John the Apostle was exiled and where he received the visions of the Book of Revelation.

Patmos is the island where St. John experienced the 'Lord's Day' visions that form the Apocalypse, the final book of the New Testament (Revelation 1:9). It is a place associated with the Church's hope in the face of persecution.

Apocalyptic Hope

The visions received on Patmos reveal the final victory of Christ over evil and the descent of the New Jerusalem, encouraging the faithful to remain steadfast in times of trial (CCC 675, 1137-1139).
