Pentecost
The descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the birth of the Church's mission.
Pentecost is the day when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the disciples in Jerusalem, fulfilling Christ's promise and manifesting the Church to the world (CCC 731, 1076). It took place fifty days after the Resurrection (CCC 731).
The Age of the Church
Pentecost inaugurated the 'Age of the Church,' the period in which Christ communicates His Spirit to the faithful through the sacraments until His return in glory (CCC 731-732, 1076).
