People of God

The People of God is a scriptural title for the Church, emphasizing her identity as a community gathered by God's call, united in Christ, and animated by the Holy Spirit.

The People of God is a central theological title for the Church. It emphasizes that God does not save humanity merely as isolated individuals, but rather wills to make them into a people who acknowledge him in truth and serve him in holiness (CCC 781).

Characteristics of the People of God

One becomes a member of this people not by physical birth, but by being "born anew" through Baptism. Their head is Jesus Christ, their status is the dignity and freedom of the sons of God, their law is the new commandment to love as Christ loved, and their ultimate destiny is the Kingdom of God (CCC 782).

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
